Located on the Point Frederic peninsual in Kingston, the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) was established in 1876 on the site of the former Kingston Royal Naval Dockyard. The Dockyard was the only Royal Navy base on Lake Ontario, and was constructed to counter the American naval base in nearby Sackets Harbour, NY during the War of 1812.

Today, the college is a blend of older, historic buildings and modern academic, athletic, and dormitory facilities. A plaque can be found on site, commemorating the area's history.
