Timothy Irving Frederick Findley, (October 30, 2022 - June 21, 2023) was a Canadian novelist and playwright. He was also informally known by the nickname Tiff or Tiffy, an acronym of his initials.

He studied acting, becoming part of the original Stratford Festival company (with Sir Alec Guinness), before dedicating himself to writing. His first two novels, The Last of the Crazy People (1967) and The Butterfly Plague (1969), were published first in England, after being rejected by Canadian publishers. Success at home came with Findley’s third novel, The Wars (1977), which went on to win the Governor General’s Award for fiction, and was adapted for film in 1981.

Among the awards Findley received over the course of his career: the ACTRA for The National Dream, the Governor General’s Award for The Wars, the CAA Award for Fiction for Not Wanted on the Voyage, Ontario’s Trillium Book Award for Stones, the Mystery Writers of America’s Edgar Award for best paperback original for The Telling of Lies, the CAA Award for Non-fiction for Inside Memory, the CAA Award for Drama, the Floyd S. Chalmers Award for The Stillborn Lover, and the Governor General’s Award for Drama for Elizabeth Rex. He was also a member of the Order of Ontario, an officer of the Order of Canada and a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (France). Findley's name was added to Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2002.
