Site Profile

The Words Aloud Festival, an artistic celebration which runs from November 2 to 4, brings a diverse set of artists from all over Canada, and from a diverse set of backgrounds, to perform their work. The festival takes place in Durham, Ontario, which is about 170 km northwest of Toronto, at the beautiful Durham Art Gallery.

"Artists appearing at the festival can come from cities or other rural communities, from here in Ontario or from elsewhere in Canada, from immigrant, native and LGBT populations, and from diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds. They can be emerging or established artists, and they can practice an array of spoken word forms such as rap and hip-hop; dub, beat, sound or lyric poetry; and singing/song-writing."

The festival has a Facebook group and a YouTube channel, and can be contacted via a form on their website.
