EVENT Literary Journal

EVENT is an award-winning literary journal that publishes fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, reviews and notes on writing by new and established writers in Canada and from around the world. EVENT is a strong supporter of literary non-fiction. Their annual Creative Non-Fiction Contest deadline is soon and they are inviting submissions. Contest details follow.

From our friends at EVENT:

$1,500 in prizes available, plus publication. EVENT reserves the right to award the prize money as the judge sees fit (i.e., two prizes at $750 each, or three at $500 each, or one at $1,000 and one at $500). Publication in EVENT 42/3 (December 2013), with standard publication payment. Other manuscripts may be published. Preliminary judging by the editors of EVENT.

Final Judge: Russell Wangersky. Wangersky’s most recent novel, The Glass Harmonica, won the 2010 BMO Winterset Award and was long-listed for the ReLit Awards. His previous book, Burning Down the House, won non-fiction awards from both coasts, as well as the Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-Fiction. The Hour of Bad Decisions was long-listed for the Scotiabank Giller Prize, and was short-listed for the Commonwealth Writer’s Prize. Wangersky lives and works in St. John’s, where he is an editor and columnist with the St. John’s Telegram. His new book, Whirl Away, is a collection of short stories, and has been nominated for the Giller prize.
