Congratulations to Kathleen Chen (Grade 9, Toronto French School), Jessica Kim (Grade 10, Martingrove Collegiate Institute, Etobicoke), Tamara Southward (Grade 11, Saint John's-Kilmarnock School) and Mik Opolski (Grade 12, St. Michael's College), winners of the International Festival of Authors' Write Across Ontario Contest! The contest asked high school students to submit a flash fiction story inspired by a "story starter" that had been written by previous IFOA participants. Winning entries were selected by Harbourfront authors.

Open Book is proud to sponsor the $500 prize that will be awarded to each winner. We were floored by the diversity of the entries, the believable use of dialogue, the complex characters and the textured narratives at work in the stories submitted by the winners and the runners-up. You'll be able to enjoy these fine pieces of writing soon for yourself: Look for publication of the award-winning entries in Open Book Magazine.
