The Ontario Book Publishers Organization is now accepting applications from qualified candidates for the temporary, contract position of Event Manager.

Application Deadline: April 10, 2023 at 5:00pm
Start Date: May 1, 2023
Remuneration: $8,000
Location: Toronto (Freelance, work from home)

Project Description

The Ontario Book Publishers Organization and the Open Book Foundation are partnering with the Toronto Arts Council to plan four free literary events in Toronto this summer. The day-long events, called ‘What’s Your Story?’ will be held on Saturdays in July and/or August in Etobicoke, North York, East Toronto, and Scarborough.

The purpose of the What’s Your Story? initiative is to bridge literary resources and relationships between Toronto neighbourhoods, and to provide development for ‘inner suburban’ writers. Professional development activities for writers usually take place downtown, with writers living in the inner suburbs lacking access to networking, educational and promotional opportunities.

Job Description

We are seeking a freelance Event Manager to plan all aspects of these events, which will feature readings, open mics, creative writing workshops, and various seminars. The Event Manager will liaise with local authors and businesses to ensure that all four events are successful.

The Event Manager will report to the OBPO’s Executive Director and work with Local Arts Service Organizations (LASOs) in the four communities to identify local authors and literary community groups, suggest the best venues, and promote the call to artists and the events to their membership.

This is a four-month contract (May to August) with the possibility of it being renewed annually.

Requirements:

  • Minimum five years of event planning experience, preferably with literary events
  • Ability to work well independently
  • Superior interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Project management, organizational, prioritizing skills; attention to details imperative
  • Demonstrate high energy level and flexibility; sound judgment
  • Familiarity with one or more of the neighbourhoods in which the events are taking place
  • Able to work some weekends as necessary
  • How to Apply:

To apply, send resume and cover letter as one PDF by email to:
