Noticed: Anne Looks...Different

Anne of Green Gables

When you think of Anne Shirley, you probably think of a winsome young girl with carrot-red braids. That's not how the good people at CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform envision our Anne. The cover for their edition of Anne of Green Gables, the beloved book by Lucy Maud Montgomery, features a lovely young woman, but to us, she doesn't quite look the part. As one reader wrote on the Amazon website, "Anne is a redhead and everyone knows that (or so I thought). It is a very important part of the story and having once been a little redheaded girl myself it is very important to me."

Listen to CBC's As it Happens to hear Beth Cavers of the Lucy Maud Montgomery Literary Society talk about the new cover.
