Gay Dwarves of America

Blogger and critic Steven W. Beattie of That Shakespearean Rag has recently published a review of Anne Flemming's new short story collection, Gay Dwarves of America (Pedlar Press). The review, which was first printed in The National Post, is almost completely positive, and lauds Flemming's "stylistic playfulness" and "forthright emotional engagement."

Fleming displays a lithe versatility in this collection, and an admirable willingness to push the boundaries of form and style. Fortunately, she mostly resists the impulse to retreat into technical sophistry: She is wise enough to realize that pure technique, devoid of emotional resonance, is ultimately sterile.

Beattie has worked for some time as the Reviews Editor of Quill & Quire and this is just one of many reviews that he has linked on his blog, all of which are worth looking up.
