Owen Sound Little Theatre Announces Poet Laureate Competition

Applications are now being accepted for the position of Owen Sound Poet Laureate.

The successful poet will be from Owen Sound, have a history of arts advocacy, and will have produced a substantial body of work. Liz Zetlin, chair of the selection committee and Owen Sound's first Poet Laureate says, “The person we select should be passionate and able to promote poetry and the literary arts in the community.”

The Poet Laureate Program was started under the auspices of the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library in 2007 and is now hosted and sponsored by the Owen Sound Little Theatre. Frank Dabbs, author from Annan and known for his generous and long-time support of the arts, is a major sponsor of the program.

The Poet Laureate will serve a two-year term from October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2015. It is a part-time position (at least 12 hours a month), during which the poet will write about the area and perform and promote writing in the area. The Poet Laureate will also be required to create a legacy project unique to the poet's artistic vision and will be asked to perform on October 19 at the Roxy Theatre's 100th anniversary party.
