CanLit Guides has posted ?Poetic Visuality and Experimentation: A Brief Guide to English-Canadian Poetry? as part of their goal to introduce students to conversations surrounding Canadian literature. The guide highlights various topics related to reading poetry, such as close reading, poetry styles and how to read visual poetry. It also provides visual poetry samples including ?this half is for the ceremony? by derek beaulieu, ?Black Noise? by Jesse Patrick Ferguson, and ?The Promise/Broken Land: mediation on Treaty Three? and ?Settlement, Mining, Lumbering, Trading? by Shane Rhodes. Complemented by examples of close readings of these poems, and creative response and critical reflection exercises, this guide provides students with the tools they need to read, understand and analyze visual poetry.

The Poetry Post series is written and organized by Megan Philipp, Open Book: Ontario's Editorial Intern. Having completed the Publishing Certificate Program at Ryerson University, she is pursuing a career in publishing. She also writes and edits for The Mindful Word, an online magazine focused on mindfulness and engaged living.

In celebration of National Poetry Month, Open Book: Ontario will be posting a Poetry Post each week day. Do you have a poetry-related link that you think we should know about? Please send it to [email protected].
