While everyone's eyes were on the U.S., a couple of things happened in Toronto, too, this week! Another round of the Open Book Toronto Weekly Round Up.

The Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Prize for Nonfiction is the country's newest and biggest non-fiction prize. Now in its second year, the prize has emerged as a tastemaker for readers and a career highlight for its winners and nominees.We launch this year's iteration of our Weston Words series with finalist Taras Grescoe, author of Straphanger: Saving Our Cities and Ourselves from the Automobile (HarperCollins Canada). A call for submissions was made by the 7th Annual Women's Work Festival. Co-produced by RCA Theatre, She Said Yes! and White Rooster Theatre, the festival is seeking works-in-progress submissions by women playwrights of any experience level for the 2013 festival (May 9-12). The Ontario Arts Council is currently accepting applications for the position of Literature Arts Officer. The Literature Arts Officer acts as the link between the arts communities and the OAC. The deadline for applications is Friday, November 23, 2022. For more information, visit here.

Breyten Breytenbach (South Africa), Suzanne Buffam (Canada) and Mark Doty (US) were announced as the judges for the 2013 the Griffin Poetry Prize. Read more about it here

The deadline for PRISM international's non-fiction Contest is fast-approaching!
The non-fiction deadline is November 28, 2022. A $1500 grand prize is awarded for the best original, unpublished work of literary non-fiction. The winner also receives publication in the Non-fiction Contest Issue. A runner-up prize of $300 and a second runner-up prize of $200 are also conferred.
