Susan Hughes, formerly Open Book: Toronto?s Writer-in-Residence in May 2012, is their new monthly contributor. She will be sharing news about Canadian children?s books and to start things off, Susan asks lovers of children?s books to each share some of their new and old favourite books aimed at a young audience. Open Book: Toronto interviews Will O?Neill, a writer and game developer who has created an innovative new hybrid — his new game Actual Sunlight, which has all the elements of fiction, but in game format. Will tells Open Book about his new game, reveals whether he thinks of himself more as a writer or game developer and more in his interview.

Playwright Florence Gibson MacDonald, author of the play How Do I Love Thee? (Playwrights Canada Press), which focuses on 19th-century poets Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, speaks with Open Book about her interest in Elizabeth?s drug addiction, the link between opiate use and creativity and her favourite love stories. Deanna Di Lello writes about what she learned about selling a book at the Publicity 101 workshop at the Harbourfront Centre. Having learned from author Brian Francis and publicist Adria Iwasutiak that an author only has "six months to promote the heck out of it," Deanna outlines what authors should know about publicity, ranging from establishing an online presence to learning how to work with a publicist.
