The League of Canadian Poets is celebrating the 14th annual National Poetry Month and from April 15, 2023 to April 21, 2012, young poets are centre stage.

During Young Poets’ Week the LCP will feature exciting projects and initiatives, across the country and online.

Check out LCP's youth and educator website for special Young Poets’ Week initiatives. On the site you'll find valuable teaching resources such as lesson plans, reading lists, a digital history of Canadian poetry and an online discussion group. Young writers are encouraged to browse articles or join forum discussions with peers and well established published poets.

During Young Poets’ Week, the site will be offering youth a chance to have their poetry critiqued by established mentors online. For the fifth year running, young poets will have the opportunity to post poetry videos on the forums alongside professional poets, filming in Canada and around the world.

In association with the LCP , the National Film Board of Canada’s Mediatheque in Toronto will also be partnering in the celebrations. Check out their free guided viewing list of poetry films featured on their digital viewing stations during April 2012.

This year’s Jessamy Stursberg Poetry Contest for Youth (formerly Poetic Licence Contest for Canadian Youth) winners and honorary mentions will also be announced during Young Poets’ Week. First, second and third prize winners will receive cash prizes, and will be published in Re:verse, the LCP ’s youth driven online e-zine, located on the Young Poets website.
