Harrison Park

Today Harrison Park is often referred to as Owen Sound’s “jewel in the crown.” In 1890, however, it was known as “Harrison’s Pleasure Gardens.” The 40 hectares of picturesque garden, forest, river, and playground set right in the heart of the city were once owned by John Harrison. He purchased the land in 1875 and dedicated years to preserving its natural beauty, eventually opening it to the public. After his death, Harrison’s family sold the land to the city at half price under the condition that it remain a public park forever.
