Margaret Christakos reviews poet Anne Carson?s Red Doc> (McClelland & Stewart) on Lemon Hound. Anne, as Margaret explains, has re-spun characters from Homeric myth in her book Autobiography of Red, and she does this in this book as well, bringing the characters of Herakles and Geryon into the modern day. Offering an extensive and fascinating analysis of Red Doc>, Margaret breaks up her review with topics including time, hubris, shock and serum. In the hubris section, for example, Margaret offers a reading of Red Doc> that focuses on Carson?s exploration of grief, and she also gives another analysis that focuses on Carson?s understanding of time. Read the review here to learn more about Anne Carson?s book.
