Sudbury and its municipalities carry a history of boom and bust and most of it has to do with the supply and demand of nickel and precious metals mining. Mining practice carry a stigma of pollution and eco-catastrophes, but over the years Greater Sudbury has incorporated world-renouned environmental reclamation policies that has turned the region into a remarkable green space. It's also a part of the precambrian shield, and offers exposed areas of rock not easily accessed elsewhere in the country. With 133 lakes, six provincial parks, and numerous conservation areas, the area offers visitors a chance to visit its storied history and marvel at geological wonders.
