From our friends at the Art Gallery of Mississauga:

Tell us your Mississauga... in verse!

Poet Priscila Uppal, in partnership with the Art Gallery of Mississauga, invites you to join her in creating poetry out of words found around the city of Mississauga. The poems are out there — we just need you to find them!

Poem #1 — Mississauga Schools: Send in lines or a page of text you?ve found in schools, anything from signs to posters to inscriptions on trophies to instructions on assignments of exams to cafeteria menus or announcements, overheard conversations, favourite teacher catch-phrases....

Poem #2 — Mississauga Malls: Send in lines or a page of text you?ve found in malls, anything from advertisements to store signage to mall regulations to sales pitches or sales flyers to item tags to overheard conversations, PA announcements, lines from mall security....

Poem #3 — Mississauga History: Past and Present: Send in lines or a page of text you?ve found in city hall speeches, newspaper articles, city archive documents, political pamphlets, inscriptions on public monuments, street signs, government documents, your favourite mayor quote....

Send your findings to [email protected] with the subject line: Your Mississauga + Poem #

Priscila Uppal, with help from Mississauga residents, will shape the material into poems that will be published on the AGM website in June 2014.

The poem is meant to be a living document — after the poem is published, Mississauga residents are still invited to add to it. Like the city, the poem will continue to grow! Public workshops to collect material and shape the poem will also be held in 2014.

Please refer to the AGM website for details.

Mississauga, you?re a poet and didn?t even know it!
